NRC STAFF TO
HOLD PUBLIC MEETING IN OMAHA |
||
Officials of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission will meet with Omaha Public Power District management at 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, January 23, at the Holiday Inn Express, 10729 J Street (just north
of 108th Street) in Omaha, to present the results of the NRC’s second
inspection of the Fort Calhoun nuclear plant license renewal program.
OPPD filed an application to renew the operating license of the Fort Calhoun plant in January 2002. The current operating license for Fort Calhoun is scheduled to expire in 2013, but the license renewal application, if approved by the NRC, would allow the plant to operate an additional 20 years. NRC officials said a report on this inspection, which focused specifically on the plant’s program for managing aging equipment, systems and structures, will be issued approximately 45 days after the meeting and will be available to the public. The meeting is between the NRC and Omaha Public Power District officials but is open to observation by interested members of the public. NRC officials will be available prior to its conclusion to answer any questions observers may have. |
