NRC OFFICIAL TO HOLD NEWS CONFERENCE IN MIAMI ON JUNE 18
A Nuclear Regulatory Commission official will hold a special news
conference in Miami on Tuesday, June 18, to discuss the agency's
regulatory responsibilities at commercial nuclear power plants in
Florida and the United States.
Luis A. Reyes, Deputy Administrator of the NRC's Region II office
in Atlanta, will brief reporters at 10:00 a.m. (EDT) in Room 220 of
the Claude Pepper Federal Building, 51 S.W. First Avenue, Miami,
on current regulatory issues at the Turkey Point plant near Homestead,
the St. Lucie plant near Ft. Pierce, and the Crystal River plant at
Crystal River, about 50 miles west of Ocala.
Reyes will also discuss the status of the University of Florida research
reactor at Gainesville, transportation and storage of spent fuel, NRC's
regulatory agreement with the State of Florida, and NRC preparations for
emergency response in the event of accidents or hurricanes.
NRC regional officials hold these news conferences on a quarterly basis
to discuss events at regulated nuclear facilities and answer reporters'
questions on these subjects.
Mr. Reyes speaks fluent Spanish and will be available to discuss matters
of interest to Spanish language reporters who attend.
