1. How do I establish the “target” for each magnet school?

Unless your approved application set a more rigorous standard for the composition of the applicant pool for each magnet school, the target percentage for the applicant pool will be based on the current school year's student enrollment of the school. If, for example, the school currently enrolls a high percentage of minority group students and is seeking to reduce minority group isolation, the school will be seeking to have a higher percentage of non-minority students in its applicant pool than is currently enrolled in the school.

2. What supporting data must be included to document actual performance?

Two pieces of data are needed:

  • First, enrollment data for the magnet school for the current school year—specifically, the fall student enrollment count reported annually on or about October 1, disaggregated by grade level and minority/non-minority status of students. For the first year of your MSAP project, this will be enrollment data from the fall of 2004.
  • Second, a comparable table for magnet school applicants, also disaggregated by grade level and minority/non-minority status of the students who are applying to be enrolled in the magnet school at the beginning of the 2005-06 school year.

3. Where should I put the supporting data in the performance report?

It may be possible to include data tables in the "Explanation of Progress" section of your status report on each school; however, in most cases it may be easier to include data tables in an appendix to the report and make reference to the location of the data in the "Explanation of Progress" section.
