Mr. Melvin is a biomedical engineering technician who develops biomedical equipment and instrumentation. His work includes the concept, design, development, fabrication, interfacing, maintenance and improvement of instrumentation used in x-ray diffraction, synchrotron beam lines, atomic force microscopy, confocal microscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, optical and laser microscopy, and other novel or unique biomedical research.

Mr. Melvin has a total of thirty years experience in instrument development for clinical, laboratory, and scientific research communities within the National Institutes of Health, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, the Smithsonian Radiation Biology Laboratory, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.

Mr. Melvin received the Merit Awards from the National Institutes of Health in 1993 and 2000.
