Welcome to the Local Legends Website honoring the remarkable, deeply caring women doctors who are transforming medical practice and improving health care for all across America, from the smallest towns to the biggest cities. This site is a companion to the National Library of Medicine exhibit Changing the Face of Medicine, which celebrates women physicians nationally.

Nominated by Members of Congress, please meet America’s unsung local women doctors. Although they come from every walk of life, every race and creed, they share an extraordinary commitment to service and dedication to better health.
Who Inspires You?
“Your” doctor. What would you do without her? Or your family? Where would your community be if she left? We are interested in hearing all about her and the contributions to your hometown that could make her a Local Legend.
Local Legends Coming To You!
Local Legends will be featured in a traveling exhibition on Changing the Face of Medicine. It will travel to libraries in 60 cities across America. Coordinated by The American Library Association Public Programs Office and the National Library of Medicine.
