Restoration Towers

 Information by State
 Print version

Residents at Restoration Towers have benefited from the services provided by the Congregate Housing Services Program (CHSP) since 1994. These affordable services, provided to 69 participants, include transportation, housekeeping, and weekend meals; all of which enable our frail elderly and younger disabled residents to maintain their independence.

CHSP transportation allows our residents, many of whom have high blood pressure and various heart problems, to keep up with their medical appointments and to maintain or improve their level of health. Restoration Towers is based on very low income standards and a taxi is monetarily impossible. In addition, the walk to the bus stop is several blocks away in a high crime area of Detroit. Over the past year there were 2,508 trips to medical appointments and pharmacy visits.

CHSP housekeeping services help residents who cannot do these chores for health reasons. Residents who currently pay the affordable cost of $2.70 per hour under the CHSP Program would otherwise be forced to pay $15.00 to $19.00 per hour for housekeeping services.

The CHSP weekend meal program is extremely important to residents with medical problems or those who are too frail to fix nutritious meals during the weekend. Over the past year approximately 25 residents each weekend day have benefited from these meals receiving a total of about 2600 meals. These residents would have been without ample food over the weekend if not for this wonderful service.

All of the services provided by the CHSP Program allow the frail and needy elderly/disabled to stay in the comforts of their own homes instead of needing assisted living or a nursing home. Because of this, the CHSP Program literally saves lives daily. All involved are extremely thankful to be able to rely on the services provided in order to better their lives every day.
