  • International Student Exchange Project Examines Implementation of GLOBE Protocol 25 Jan 2007
    The idea became a reality when the exchange was organized and financial issues resolved by the U.S. Embassy, the German Environmental Lottery "BINGO!" (which provides funds to educational projects mostly related to school and Youth projects on Environment and Development) and GLEN (Global Education Network - a non-profit organization that promotes student exchanges focused on international cooperation).

    The opening ceremony was attended by the Mr. Zoua Abraham, Secretary General for Basic Education, Professor Ivo Tambo, Secretary General for Secondary Education, Mr. Robert Strauss, Peace Corps Director and Mr. Dan Whitman, U.S. Embassy.
  • Ethiopia: 110th Country to Join GLOBE! 30 Aug 2005
    On Wednesday, August 24, Ethiopia became the 110th country worldwide to join GLOBE. U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Aurelia E. Brazeal and Ethiopia's Vice Minister of Education Ato Dereje Terefe signed the bilateral GLOBE agreement at the Institute for Curriculum Development and Research. Ambassador Brazeal signed the agreement on behalf of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The Regional Environment Office for East Africa, based at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, initiated the discussions that led to the launching of GLOBE in Ethiopia.
  • Congo Joins GLOBE! 16 Aug 2005
    Ambassador Robin Renee Sanders, representing the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Madam Rosalie Kama Niamayoua, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Congo, signed the agreement. The Ceremony was covered by national press and television.
  • Niger Joins GLOBE 24 May 2005
    On 11 August 2005, H.E. Oumarou Hamani, Minister of Basic Education in Niger, and U.S. Ambassador, Gail Dennise Mathieu, signed the GLOBE agreement.
  • GLOBE Visits Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Ethiopia 15 Nov 2004
    The U.S. Ambassador, Aurelia E. Brazeal, graciously held a luncheon that included over 12 officials from the Ministry of Education, Meteorological Service, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopian Science and Technology Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Embassy.

    US Ambassador, Joseph LeBaron, signed the GLOBE agreement in Nouakchott.

  • Gabon Joins GLOBE 29 Aug 2003
    The GLOBE Program welcomes Gabon as the Program's 103rd GLOBE country. On August 11, 2003, US Ambassador, Kenneth P. Moorefield, and Professor Daniel Ona-Ondo, Minister of Education in Gabon, signed the GLOBE agreement in Libreville.

    On August 21, 2003, US Ambassador, Margaret K. McMillion and Dr. Romain Murenzi, Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Research in Rwanda, signed the GLOBE agreement in Kigali.
  • Zoo-goers and Animals Watch as Teachers Learn GLOBE Protocols in Madagascar 20 Jan 2002
    Prime Minister Tantely Andrianarivo's envoy, Sylvain Ramaromanana, and representatives from the Malagasy Ministry of Basic Education, the United States Embassy, the World Wildlife Fund, the U.S. Peace Corps and the U.S. Agency for International Development participated in the opening ceremony and many workshop activities.
  • Benin, Committed GLOBE Partner, Hosts First GLOBE International Atmosphere Symposium 25 May 2001
    United States Ambassador to Benin, Ms. Pamela Bridgewater, a former teacher, joined representatives of the Ministry of Environment and the United States Agency for International Development in opening the symposium April 12.
  • GLOBE STARS in Benin 17 Oct 1997
    Benin joined GLOBE in April 1995 when the Minister of Education, Mr. Karim Dramane, and then-United States Ambassador to Benin, the Honorable Ruth Davis, signed an agreement in a special ceremony in the capital city, Cotonou.
