GLOBE students at Jones County High School in Murdo, South Dakota have initiated an exciting partnership with the National Weather Service. Based on the students' experience with taking GLOBE atmospheric measurements, the National Weather Service has asked the school to become an official participant in the U.S. Cooperative Weather Observer Program.

According to GLOBE Lead Teacher Mike McKernan, the students send temperature and precipitation data to the National Weather Service every day. "The two projects complement one another, and our students are excited about both the GLOBE project and the National Weather Service station," he said.

"I feel that the GLOBE project is a very good experience, and I believe that it will help us all to understand and know how the environment is changing," said GLOBE student Trent Dowling. "The information that we learn from hands-on activities, and from other information that we can access from other schools, helps us to understand the weather and weather patterns," he said.

Congratulations to Jones County High School on this honor!
