NACOSH PUBLIC MEETING SET FOR JUNE IN WASHINGTON

The National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) will meet in Washington, D.C., on June 6, to review its final draft report on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's standards development process.

NACOSH has studied the agency's process for standards development, including the use of advisory committees and the role of professional associations and consensus standards-setting organizations in that process. Panel discussions, involving both OSHA staff and members of the public involved in the process, were held during the last four meetings. With the study completed, NACOSH members are ready to discuss their recommendations in full detail.

The committee will also hear a brief overview on current OSHA and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) activities.

NACOSH was established by authority of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 to advise the secretaries of labor and health and human services on occupational safety and health programs. Members of the 12-person advisory committee are chosen on the basis of their knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health.

Written data, views or comments may be submitted to Joanne Goodell, OSHA, Room N3641, 200 Constitution Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20210. Twenty copies are requested. Submissions received prior to the meeting will be included in the record. For more information, Goodell can be reached at (202) 693-2400.

Individuals with disabilities wishing to attend the meeting and who require special accommodations should contact Veneta Chatmon by calling (202) 693-1999 not later than May 30, 2000.

An official record of the meeting will be available for public inspection at the OSHA Docket Office, Room N2625. Contact the Docket Office at (202) 693-2350.

Notice of the NACOSH meeting appears in the May 16, 2000 Federal Register.
