"Operation Cave-in" shuts underground meth lab

A total of 23 northwestern PA residents have been charged in connection with "Operation Cave-in," the break-up of a $1 million methamphetamine organization. Members of the drug ring used a sophisticated underground lab to produce large quantities of meth for distribution and sale in Venango, Mercer and other counties across the region.

Parents should review Internet safety with kids

Attorney General Tom Corbett urged parents to review Internet safety tips with their children, especially when giving new computers, games or cell phones as holiday gifts.

Expanded gun violence education program launched

A new gun violence education program, created by the Office of Attorney General, was launched recently in Lancaster. Called "Think Again: Gun Violence and Straw Purchasing," the program is designed to educate teens and adults about the dangers of gun violence and the effects of straw purchasing - buying weapons for criminals.

Timeshare sales trigger consumers protection suit

Attorney General Tom Corbett says more than 5,700 Pennsylvania residents were charged as much as $45,000 for timeshares and travel packages from Florida-based "Bluegreen Corporation" that violated Pennsylvania's Consumer Protection Law, the Real Estate Licensing and Registration Act, the Telemarketer Registration Act and other consumer protection regulations.

Consumers will receive at least $700,000 from Pure Weight Loss as part of a consent agreement reached with the Attorney General's Health Care Section.

Home Improvement Protection Act approved by lawmakers; new tools to help protect consumers

Pennsylvania lawmakers have approved the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act, intended to guard consumers against unscrupulous contractors, provide new protection when hiring contractors and authorize criminal penalties for home improvement fraud.

Predator arrested in Butler & Northumberland Co.

Agents from the Attorney General's Child Predator Unit, along with local police, have made two recent arrests involving Butler County and Northumberland County men, both accused of using the Internet to sexually proposition what they believed were several different children. The unit has arrested 183 online predators since January 2005.

Consumers are being warned about a growing number of financial scams disguised as sweepstakes prizes or work-at-home job offer.

Charges announced in ongoing state "bonus" probe

Attorney General Tom Corbett announced that a continuing investigation has uncovered the illegal use of millions of dollars in taxpayers' funds, resources and state employees for political campaign purposes. To date, 12 suspects have been charged, including several current or former lawmakers and a number of legislative staff members.
