Social Justice Summit is Feb. 6-7 at MU

The 8th annual Social Justice Summit (formerly the Multicultural Leadership Summit) will be held Feb. 6 (6-9 p.m.) and 7 (9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.) in the MU. A diverse range of Iowa State students discuss issues related to diversity and social justice. Registration is free and open to 70 students. Register for sustainability symposium

All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the Symposium on Enhancing Sustainability at Iowa State University. Participants can attend free of charge all or part of the Feb. 9-10 symposium. The intent of the symposium is to identify sustainability initiatives the university should pursue.

The Gloria Ladson-Billings lecture, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight, has been postponed due to the inclement weather. The lecture has been rescheduled for Feb. 15 (6 p.m., Memorial Union Sun Room). More about the lecture.

Destination Iowa State team leaders needed

The Office of New Student Programs is looking for energetic student leaders who want to share their excitement for Iowa State with new students. Team leaders will be responsible for helping new students adjust to campus during Destination Iowa State, Aug. 20-22. A $200 stipend is available. Applications are due Feb. 6. Tutoring for young readers

One-on-one tutoring for young readers in grades 2-8 is available spring semester through the Fred Duffelmeyer Reading Improvement Clinic in Lagomarcino Hall. Tutors are advanced graduate students who receive guidance from literacy education faculty. Applications will be accepted through Jan. 23. Enrollment fee is $100 per child. Vet med students excel in animal welfare contest

Iowa State University veterinary medicine students took high honors at the Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Competition recently. Second-year student Jennafer Glaesemann, Fairbury, Neb., placed first in the individual competition, and Iowa State's team placed second in the veterinary college competition. More.

Student veterans may qualify for ISU Veterans Grant

ISU has allocated $100,000 for the ISU Veterans Grant, a new program the Office of Student Financial Aid hopes will help supplement existing GI Bill benefits. The grant will provide up to $1,000 per semester for students whose veteran status is confirmed. Preference will be given to students whose status is confirmed by Jan. 2, 2009. Awards will continue to be made as long as funding is available. See details.
