Figure 5.25 is a U.S. map showing percentages reporting needing but not receiving treatment for alcohol use in the past year among persons aged 12 or older, by State, for 2002. States listed here in alphabetical order within each group were divided into five groups based on the magnitude of their percentages. States in the highest group (8.57 to 9.58 percent) were Arizona, Colorado, District of Columbia, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. States in the next highest group (7.61 to 8.56 percent) were Alaska, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. States in the mid group (7.03 to 7.60 percent) were Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Nevada, New York, and Ohio. States in the next lowest group (6.32 to 7.02 percent) were California, Florida, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington. States in the lowest group (5.64 to 6.31 percent) were Alabama, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
