March 26, 1997:
U.S. Vice President Visits GLOBE Schools in China

As U.S. Vice President Al Gore has said, "GLOBE students are young scientists, tens of thousands strong, learning about Planet Earth...then teaching us." During a trip to China the week of March 24, 1997, Vice President Gore visited two GLOBE schools to see the progress they have made in their GLOBE activities.

On March 25, Vice President Gore visited the Affiliation Experimental Middle School in Beijing where students regularly take GLOBE environmental observations in the areas of atmospheric temperature, precipitation, and cloud observations. On March 26, the Vice President visited the Shanghai Chang Ning Youngster Science-Technology Coaching Station, where students have been actively participating in GLOBE and are monitoring the Shuzhou river. The students are sharing their results with the community and making recommendations to improve the river.

"Ultimately, our combined efforts will enhance environmental awareness and contribute significantly to the scientific understanding of the Earth," Gore stated.

Congratulations to the GLOBE Students and Teachers in Beijing and Shanghai for their hard work to make GLOBE a success in their schools!
