GLOBE Welcomes the Dominican Republic!
On June 20, 1997, Technical Secretary to the President, Eduardo Selman, and Secretary of Education, Ligia Amada Melo de Cardona, both of the Dominican Republic, and United States Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Donna J. Hrinak, signed the GLOBE Agreement, making the Dominican Republic a partner in the GLOBE Program.The GLOBE Agreement is particularly important as it is the first bilateral agreement related to the environment that the two countries have signed together. During the signing ceremony at the National Palace, Ambassador Hrinak gave an electronic globe to Technical Secretary Selman to illustrate that GLOBE will give Dominican students access to thousands of other schools and students worldwide. The electronic globe is being kept in Dominican President Fernandez's office.
