Cameroon Joins the GLOBE Program!
On November 06, 1998, Cameroon joined the GLOBE Program. U.S. Ambassador John Yates signed the GLOBE agreement with Minister of State in charge of National Education Charles Etoundi. A signing ceremony was held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon."An increased scientific understanding of the earth is surely an asset to the Cameroonian child," remarked Minister Etoundi. "...the signing of this agreement represents for us a positive step in raising an awareness among young people about the necessity for them to acquire the right knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for dealing effectively with the problems of the global environment."
U.S. Peace Corps Country Director Rob Hanawalt has pledged the support of local Peace Corps volunteers in the initial training of Cameroonian math and science teachers.
