Cyprus Joins GLOBE!
On November 24, 1998, during the Cyprus Environment Week, Cyprus became the 74th GLOBE country. The Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture, Lycourgos Kappas, and United States Ambassador to Cyprus, Kenneth C. Brill, signed the GLOBE agreement on behalf of the two countries in the Cypriot capital Nicosia at the Ministry of Education and Culture. "The GLOBE Program helps enrich the Cypriot educational system by bringing students face-to-face with world issues and the impact of these issues on them," Ambassador Brill stated at the ceremony. "It thus contributes directly to the future well-being of Cyprus and its people. The participation of Cyprus schools will be a valuable addition to this exciting program."
