Opportunity for Public Participation in December VMAC Meeting

Interested persons may make oral presentations to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) Veterinary Medicine Advisory Committee (VMAC) during its meeting to be held December 10-11, 1998. The meeting, which will start at 8:30 a.m. both days and is scheduled to end at 4:00 p.m. on the 11th, is being held in the Holiday Inn-Gaithersburg, Two Montgomery Village Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD. The focus of the meeting will be to discuss a proposed framework on how to evaluate the potential public health hazard from resistant pathogens and resistance genes associated with the use of antimicrobials in food animals.

Oral presentations from the public are tentatively scheduled for the morning of December 11, but may begin on the afternoon of December 10. Those desiring to make formal oral presentations should notify Jacquelyn L. Pace, Center for Veterinary Medicine, Food and Drug Administration, 7500 Standish Place, Rockville, MD 20855, 301-827-6650, fax 301-594-4512. Notification must be made by December 3. Submit a brief statement of the general nature of the evidence or arguments to be presented, the names and addresses of proposed participants, and the approximate amount of time requested. Interested persons may also submit written statements for consideration by the Committee. These statements should be submitted to

Jacquelyn L. Pace by December 3.
