GLOBE, NASA Sponsor NetDay Virtual Conference

On October 12, 1996, GLOBE will join the NASA K-12 Internet Initiative and NetTEAM96 to host an Internet-based virtual conference. All GLOBE Schools and the general public are invited to join students and scientists in the NetDay and Beyond Virtual Conference (VCon) to learn about exciting Internet-based classroom projects and to talk with experts from the computer industry about technical issues.

The NetDay and Beyond VCon is planned to coincide with NetDay 96, a nationwide volunteer effort to wire K-12 classrooms to the Internet. The NetDay and Beyond VCon will feature live WebChats, audio, and video presentations. The NetDay and Beyond VCon Website is http://quest.arc.nasa.gov/netday96. From 11:00 am to 2:00 pm EST, GLOBE students from around the world will describe how they take a regular set of scientific measurements and report their data via the Internet. They will talk with their peers and with the scientists who are using this data in their research via WebChat. The general public is invited to join the VCon with the GLOBE students and scientists. To participate in the WebChat portion of the VCon, participants will need access to the Internet, via a graphical Web browser, with a minimum of a 14.4Kbps modem connection.

Throughout the VCon, NetTEAM96 and NASA will provide experts to address technical issues related to maintaining a network and an Internet connection. NetTeam96 is a consortium of corporations providing product and service donations,
