GLOBE Student Measurements Top 4 Million!

Students in the GLOBE Program have reported data from over 4 million environmental measurements for use in scientific research! GLOBE students have been carefully taking observations in atmosphere, hydrology, land cover, and soils since April 10, 1995. These student data are being studied in schools on every continent and used by scientists seeking a better understanding of Earth's environment.

On October 13, 1999, 7th graders at Walnut Ridge Middle School in Arkansas submitted data from the 4 millionth reported measurement as part of their daily atmosphere report. GLOBE Teacher Lloyd Clark, who teaches geography, said his students had been eager to gain access to the Internet to report the data they have been collecting since the school year began. Since a number of students live nearby the school, Mr. Clark hopes they will also be able to take and report weekend and holiday measurements.

Congratulations to all the young scientists in the GLOBE Program on their valuable contribution to our knowledge of Earth.
