How to Choose the Plan that is Best for You

Types of Plans
Discusses the types of plans available, with the advantages and disadvantages of each type. Also some things to consider when comparing plans.

Premiums
While premiums are important, you also need to consider the difference in the out-of-pocket costs between the various plans. You are after the lowest total cost by the end of the year -- not just the lowest premium.

Medicare and FEHB
If you are 65 or over, you will be covered by both Medicare and FEHB. This section discusses the coordination of benefit payments between these programs. This is important information to help you in choosing an appropriate FEHB plan.

PlanSmartChoice
Several Federal departments and agencies have contracted with PlanSmartChoice to make this plan comparison tool available to their employees through Employee Express. If you are an employee of one of these agencies go to Employee Express to use this tool.
