Switzerland Joins GLOBE!
Switzerland joined the GLOBE Program on Earth Day, April 22, 1998, becoming the 68th GLOBE country! Federal Councilor Moritz Leuenberger and U.S. Ambassador Madeleine Kunin signed the agreement at a ceremony in Bern, Switzerland. Kunin congratulated Switzerland on joining GLOBE and giving students "a hands-on opportunity to learn about the environment, share their knowledge with other children around the world, and make an important contribution to environmental data."The program will first be introduced in selected schools during the 1998/99 school year in the Cantons of Bern, Basel-City, St. Gallen, Thurgau, and Vaud. GLOBE welcomes the teachers and students of Switzerland!
