The Montana Historical Society provides a wide range of resources created for the classroom. Footlockers contain hands-on objects and User Guides on one of nineteen topics. The User Guides, including historical narratives, a bibliography, lessons, and compliance with Montana Standards for Social Studies, can be viewed on-line to help you prepare for your use of the resources. Slide units and videos provide a supplement to classroom assignments and projects on various Montana history topics. The Society offers a selection of online curriculum guides on Montana themes for use in your classroom. For students researching the State's history, the Society offers an online Guide to the History of the State.

Availability and Cost: Footlocker exhibits and slide/video units are available to Montana educators for two weeks at a time (see booking slots for current school year). Schools incur the cost of shipping and insuring the footlocker to the next location via United Parcel Service (UPS). Footlockers shipped the previous Friday do NOT always arrive the following Monday, please plan accordingly. Footlockers must be insured for $1,000 ($30-$35 shipping and insurance-varies by weight and location) and slide units/videos for $100.00 ($10-$15 shipping and insurance-varies by weight and location). If schools fail to insure the footlocker/slide unit/video and the item is lost, they will be charged with the replacement costs.
Booking: To order, call the Society's Education Office at (406) 444-4789 or email MHSEducation@mt.gov. In order to get the materials that you seek at the times you prefer, please book early. Many teachers order the footlockers or slide units during the spring semester proceeding the school year in which they wish to use it.
