The Republic of Colombia Joins GLOBE
On October 28, 1998, Colombia became the 73rd nation to join the GLOBE Program. The signing ceremony was held in Washington D.C. during the State Visit of the President of Colombia to the United States. Foreign Minister DeSoto signed the GLOBE agreement on behalf of the Colombian Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment, and Deputy Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere Scott Gudes signed for the United States. The Colombians plan to coordinate GLOBE through their meteorological organization, the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (IDEAM).
