This class examines the work of a professional botanist. The instructor helps participants take a critical look at botany in the realm of environmental legislation. Participants will review agency policies, describe planning for rare plant surveys and field techniques, look briefly at statistical analysis, and outline report contents. Participants will also learn field methods for rare plant surveys and collecting vegetation data. The instructor will provide sample report outlines and formats, lists of essential literature sources, agency guidelines, and more. The course will be useful to anyone who might prepare or review botanical surveys, including students, consultants, planners, and policy advocates.
