By creating partnerships among industry, government agencies, and academia, the NTTC contributes to economic development on local, regional, and national levels. These partnerships stimulate company growth and job creation as new products are developed for the commercial market or for government use. Such activity is an economic shot in the arm for a community, a region, or an entire industry.
The NTTC is involved in the NASA Alliance for Small Business Opportunity (NASBO), thereby increasing opportunities for American small businesses to participate in technology development and production. The small-business community is one of the most significant sources of innovation in the United States, and through NASA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, these companies receive support to help close the research-to-product gap, bringing economic benefits to communities.
