Germany Establishes GLOBE Server

GLOBE Germany has established a mirror server to provide German GLOBE Schools easier access to the GLOBE Program on the World Wide Web. The German server includes all of the features of the U.S. GLOBE server, including data entry, visualizations, and the student data archive.

"We replicated the GLOBE server because trans-Atlantic Internet connections between Germany and the U. S. were slow, making connection costs high," according to Dr. Roswitha Gruemann, Germany's GLOBE Country Coordinator for Science and Technology. "We hope that connection to the mirror server by German GLOBE schools will lower their telephone costs for connection to the Internet."

Dr. Gruemann invites other European GLOBE schools to connect to the GLOBE web site through the German server. To connect to the German server, rather than the U.S. server, simply select the link at the bottom of the GLOBE Home page. Schools in Europe may find this server offers faster access to the GLOBE web site than the U.S. server.
