Persons with Disabilities by Race and Ethnicity

 Information by State
 Print version

The data on this page has been updated to reflect FY07 participation.

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program requires grantees to consider the needs of persons with disabilities in planning and carrying out activities assisted with CDBG funds. Grantees need to report on the number of persons with disabilities that have benefited from certain types of activities. Census 2000 provides the information needed to fulfill this requirement.

The CDBG program also requires information on the race and ethnicity of the disabled population age 16 and above for certain activities. Census 2000 Summary File Three contains this information but does not go down to the block group level. The lowest level of geographic detail for this information is census tract level. This information comes from tables PCT68A through PCT68I. There is a workbook for each state containing all the tract level geography records in the state. The tract records are coded with the name and code numbers of the state and county. The breakout by race in the workbook follows the 2000 Census race reporting standards and are as follows:

Breakout by Race
WHITE
White Alone
BLACK
Black or African American Alone
AIANA
American Indian and Alaska Native Alone
ASIAN
Asian Alone
NHOPI
Native Hawaiian and Other PAcific Islander Alone
OTHERRACE
Includes both Some Other Race Alone and all combinations of two or more races

The ethnic breakout in the workbook is Hispanic or Latino and All Other.

Additional guidance on how to use these data to report accomplishments in IDIS will be provided by the Office of Block Grant Assistance. Guidance questions may be directed by e-mail to Steve Johnson.

Comments and questions about this information may be directed by e-mail to Faye Brill.

Please note: If you do not have Microsoft Excel available to view the workbook, you may download the free Excel viewer from Microsoft. Some of these file sizes are large and may take some time to download depending on which file and the connection speed to the Internet. The file sizes are listed below.
