On July 17, 2006, the Mayor of Knoxville, Bill Haslam, welcomed everyone to a press conference held on the site of two homes constructed by the Tennessee Conference Community Development Corporation (TCCDC) of the A.M.E. Zion Church using HUD HOME funds. Victor and Mary Blair and Charles Foster and Tracey Weaver were first time homebuyers. Both families have successfully resolved issues by attending housing counseling, homebuyer, and financial fitness training to realize the American dream of homeownership. The homeownership event showed the elation of these two families who first believed they did not have a chance to become homeowners. To see this dream become a reality was awesome. These two homes were built on infill properties. The grant funds were set aside by the City of Knoxville for use by Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs).
