Goethe-Schule, Wetzlar, Germany
17 October 1997
The student council of Goetheschule was inspired to make Earth Day declarations. On Earth Day, the entire Goetheschule was designated as a "No Smoking Area." The declaration also stated that, in the future, all students would avoid creating extra waste. Students will bring their own glasses to school, instead of using plastic cups, and all students will be encouraged not to drive their own cars to school. Those students that do drive will be asked for a 1 DM donation to be used to improve the environment of the school grounds.
Goetheschule has 800 students in grades 11,12, and 13. The students work closely with Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen, Germany. The GLOBE students have planted fifty Alnus glutinosa trees at a site near their school. They have also created a web page and exchange data and information with Tabor Academy, a GLOBE School in Marion, Massachusetts.
