e-LSEE Announces Call for Papers for Estonia Conference
The "e-Learning in Science and Environmental Education" or "e-Lesse" Project is a collaboration of GLOBE Country Coordinators and GLOBE teachers from Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the United Kingdom. The e-LSEE Project announces a Call for Papers for interested participants in its October 2003 conference in Tartu, Estonia. For more information, read more or see
http://www.ut.ee/eLSEEConf/submission_of_abstracts.htmIn the e-LSEE Project, GLOBE teachers from these six European countries have developed more than 30 e-learning activities, working with themes within the countries- curricula and using GLOBE data and activities. The project is supported bythe European Union through the Minerva strand of the Socrates program and aims to incorporate Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills into curricula for students age 8 to 16 years old, while at the same time providing computer- and Internet-based learning of scientific and environmental issues.
The project acknowledges the increasing influence of ICT on people as employees, consumers and citizens, and the challenge that presents for schools. Educators must motivate pupils to embrace technological innovation and learn new knowledge and skills. Integrating e-learning in schools creates new demands on school organization, the teaching and learning processes, and the professional skills of teachers. At a conference in Tartu, Estonia, 1-4 October 2003, GLOBE/e-LSEE teachers and Country Coordinators take up these challenging issues. They will also launch new GLOBE-based materials, produced in six languages, including a web site and CD-ROM. The Conference is sponsored by the University of Tartu and the EU Socrates Minerva e-LSEE project.Those interested in participating in the Conference are invited to submit a pre-registration form and a short abstract of their presentation or activity by June 1, 2003.
