GLOBE Stars

A.B. McDonald Elementary School, Moscow, ID, USA

15 June 1998

Students at McDonald Elementary in Moscow, Idaho made the front page of the Moscow Daily News for their unique approach to the GLOBE Program. These young students will not only be learning how to take GLOBE measurements and report data, they will be learning to do it in Spanish! The effort is part of a pilot project in the school district to incorporate Spanish language lessons into other classroom subject areas, such as math and science.

Working with Spanish education college students at the University of Idaho, GLOBE Teacher Teresa Kennedy will guide second, third, and fourth graders in this exciting initiative. Students plan on practicing their Spanish skills by using GLOBEMail to correspond with native Spanish speakers in other GLOBE countries.

Student Lacey Stoor told the newspaper that she was excited about GLOBE because "..we get to actually do stuff instead of reading it out of a book. We get to be just like the scientists."
