NIMH Specific Information:
NIMH encourages outstanding mentors, with national reputations in an area of research supported by the NIMH and with active, peer-reviewed, independent research support from the NIMH at the time of submission, to apply for a K24 award from NIMH. Eligibility for renewal of a K24 award is also limited to those who have an active NIMH grant at the time of application. The applicant must be one of the named PIs on active R01, R24, R37, P01, P20, P30, P50, U01, or U10 grants. Investigators who are subproject investigators on NIMH P or U series grants, or who are principal investigators on a subcontract of any other grant mechanism, are not eligible. At the time of the K24 award, sufficient time should remain on the qualifying NIMH research project grant that the K24 project period will overlap by at least two years with the NIMH research project grant support (excluding any period of no-cost extension). If support for the qualifying NIMH research project grant lapses during the K24 project period, the K24 support may be continued for one year after the lapse in funding to allow for a resubmission of the qualifying research application. If the resubmission is unsuccessful, NIMH may terminate the K24 award at that time. If the K24 project period will exceed the project period of funded independent support, the candidate should provide information about his/her plans concerning continued independent research support in the K24 application.
Scientists who hold a position with committed salary support for research or whose primary responsibility is administrative must demonstrate a compelling need for a K24 award.
Potential applicants are encouraged to contact their NIMH program officer to discuss their interests in this program. |

NINR Specific Information:
The NINR funds this program to enable mid-career health professionals to make awards to individuals research training in specified areas, using the standard NRSA stipend and budgetary levels announced in the NIH guide for Gants & Contracts annually. NINR supports and conducts clinical and basic research and research training on acute and chronic illness across the life span, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, health disparities, caregiving, management of symptoms, self-management, genetics, epigenetics , and care at the end of life. NINR seeks to extend nursing science by integrating the biological and behavioral sciences, applying new technologies to research questions, improving the quality and effectiveness of interventions, and developing research investigators. In so doing, the NINR is helping to address the critical shortage of faculty, which both contributes to, and is affected by, the increasing gap between the supply and demand in the workforce. |
