The Laboratory of Cell and Developmental Biology (formerly the Craniofacial Developmental Biology and Regeneration Branch) has three Senior and two Tenure Track Investigators, each with independent but related scientific programs. Their research groups share centralized facilities for tissue culture, equipment for molecular biology and biochemistry, extensive instrumentation for microscopy and video image analysis, and computer and office facilities. Although research interests of the LCDB groups span a number of areas, the Laboratory is unified by shared interests in the extracellular matrix and cell surface interactions, as well as in the discovery of novel genes and developmental and cell biological mechanisms. Members of the LCDB collaborate freely within and between research groups, as well as with an unusually large number of NIH intramural, extramural, and foreign researchers. For example, in a recent 4-year review period, members of LCDB/CDBRB collaborated with 75 outside researchers.
