GLOBE Aids Student Achievement

The GLOBE Program is successfully impacting student knowledge and skills in classrooms around the world, according to a study by SRI International, a California firm with a world-renowned expertise in education evaluation.

"GLOBE is an excellent example of substantive educational use of the Internet," according to Dr. Barbara Means of SRI's Center for Technology in Learning. "After GLOBE's second year of operation, there is evidence of enhanced science and mathematics learning in classrooms where GLOBE is being implemented. Just as important, the program is giving students a new perspective on what it means to do science and to be part of a scientific investigation."

The 1996-1997 evaluation by SRI found that the GLOBE Program is characterized by strong teacher and student enthusiasm, adaptability to a wide range of grade levels and contexts, and compatibility with inquiry and collaborative learning models.
