Schools Launch El Niqo Experiment

For the first time since the GLOBE program began measuring the environment, an El Niqo is underway in the tropical Pacific. All early indications are that it will be a big one! GLOBE schools can help scientists understand this important phenomena. Based on past El Niqo events and on models of the circulation of the atmosphere and oceans, scientists are predicting abnormally wet, dry, warm, or cold conditions for different regions at different times. GLOBE students will be helping to test these predictions or hypotheses by taking GLOBE measurements faithfully and carefully during the coming months. Visit the "GLOBE Students Track El Niqo" link on the data server welcome page for a special message from the GLOBE Chief Scientist and suggested classroom activities.
