September 18, 1996:
Choctaw Tribal Schools from Mississippi Join GLOBE

GLOBE is honored to announce that the eight Choctaw Tribal Schools in Mississippi have joined GLOBE, representing the first institutional involvement of Native American schools in the program. Under the leadership of Choctaw Tribal Chief, Phillip Martin, and education director, Terry Ben, this initiative will become a model for involving other Native American Tribes in GLOBE.

NASA officials at the John C. Stennis Space Center will work closely with the Mississippii Band of the Choctaw Tribe on implementation of GLOBE. A September 16, 1996 ceremony held at the Philadelphia, Mississippi Choctaw reservation marked the initiation of the new partnership between the Choctaw Indians and the GLOBE Program.
