ELIZABETH A. YETLEY NAMED FDA LEAD SCIENTIST FOR NUTRITION

CFSAN Director Joseph A. Levitt has named Elizabeth A. Yetley, PhD, as the Lead Scientist for Nutrition at CFSAN. In this capacity, she will serve as the Center's chief advocate for and facilitator of nutrition policy and related science across the Center and with top FDA officials and other officials throughout the federal government, the scientific and research communities, the food industry and internationally. Dr. Yetley will report directly to Dr. Robert Buchanan, the Center's senior science adviser and also will serve as nutrition adviser to Dr. Susan Alpert, the director for the Center's food safety program.

Dr. Yetley has worked with FDA since 1980, most recently as the director of the Office of Special Nutritionals. In her new position, she will lead Center activities to improve how FDA coordinates and applies sound nutrition science to regulatory and research activities. She also will assist the Center's top management in formulating, developing and executing short- and long-range nutrition-related goals.

Dr. Yetley serves as the U.S. delegate to the CODEX Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Use. She has authored or co-authored more than 40 articles for professional publication and has received numerous awards and honors, including most recently, the Virginia Beal endowed lectureship award from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Yetley earned her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in nutrition from Iowa State University.
