Kathy Heuer Appointed Chief Financial Officer and Associate Commissioner for Management

Dr. Lester M. Crawford, Acting Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner, today announced the appointment of Kathy Heuer as the agency's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Associate Commissioner for Management. Ms. Heuer is a Certified Public Accountant with a strong background in finance, information technology and human resources.

As the new Associate Commissioner for Management and CFO, Ms. Heuer will oversee the Offices of Acquisitions and Grants Services, Executive Operations, Financial Management, Human Resources, Information Resources Management, Management Programs and Real Property Services and the White Oak Consolidation program.

"Kathy's focus on an integrated systems approach to management, in the current environment of multiple and overlapping goals and priorities, will be a tremendous addition to FDA's management team," said Dr. Crawford.

Ms. Heuer most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Performance and Planning in the Office of Budget, Technology and Finance at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). At HHS, Ms. Heuer oversaw program objectives of the President's Management Agenda and was involved in improving financial management across the federal government. Ms. Heuer also provided leadership for the Unified Financial Management System development effort for HHS.

Ms. Heuer holds a master's degree in tax from the University of Wisconsin.

Ms. Heuer replaces Jeffrey M. Weber, who recently announced his retirement from FDA after more than 35 years of federal service. Mr. Weber joined FDA in 1999.
