January 14, 1998:
KidsGLOBE to Aid Schools in Developing Countries

Former Peace Corps Volunteer and GLOBE Trainer Bryan Garcia is making plans to provide opportunities for more young people in developing countries to participate in the GLOBE Program. Garcia has established a new non-profit organization, KidsGLOBE, which will seek donations from private individuals and organizations and will also try to raise funds through the sale of items, such as GLOBE T-shirts.

KidsGLOBE and GLOBE signed an agreement on January 5, 1998 at the GLOBE Office in Washington, DC. Under this agreement, KidsGLOBE will seek support for GLOBE schools, especially in developing countries. "KidsGLOBE could have a significant impact on expanding GLOBE around the world," said GLOBE Director, Tom Pyke, at the signing ceremony.

"There are many countries eager to have students participate in the GLOBE Program, but some have difficulty securing resources to purchase necessary equipment, such as scientific instruments and computer access for schools," stated Garcia. In addition to providing support for instruments and computers, KidsGLOBE hopes to be able to help in providing teacher training opportunities.

Individuals interested in helping KidsGLOBE's efforts are encouraged to contact Bryan Garcia via email at KdsGLOBE@aol.com.
