CPSC, Zenith Announce Recall to Repair Large-Screen, Analog Projection Televisions

Press Release # 03-078

Transcript

CPSC Hal Stratton speaks "Zenith and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission have worked cooperatively to get the word out to all consumers who have these recalled televisions. They should immediately pick up the phone and call Zenith to schedule a free repair."

"If you have a Zenith large screen projection TV purchased between 1995 and 1999, give the company a call for a free inspection and repair. A tear in a gasket can cause fluid to leak from the picture tube. This can cause smoking, charring and electrical arcing inside the television posing a fire hazard to consumers."

John Taylor, Vice President, Public Affairs, Zenith Electronics Corporation speaks "Zenith is proud of their strong record of product safety and reliability. And the reputation that Zenith has earned for product quality for the last 85 years. This product recall reflects Zenith's committment to serving our customers."

"The repair involves the installation of a device to prevent coolant fluid from leaking onto the circuitry inside of the set. This simple modification performed by a Zenith authorized technician could take about 1/2 hour."
