Tek Nek Toys Recall of Ride-On Toys

Tek Nek Toys International, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, wants to alert you to a potential safety hazard with certain ride-on toys.

Tek Nek is voluntarily recalling to repair about 70,000 of these ride-on toys. The toys can be used as a ride-on or push-walker toy.

The screw and nut assembly attaching the steering wheel can come loose, causing a choking and aspiration hazard to young children.

Tek Nek has received six reports of the screw and nut coming loose, including the death of an 18 month old boy who aspirated on the screw.

The vehicles were sold in major toy and discount department stores nationwide from December 2002 through March 2004 for about $30.

The ride-on toys were sold under five model names, including: Butterfly Girl, Fire Rescue, Mermaid, Police Car, and Tonka Construction Crew.

The recalled ride-on vehicles have a date code from 20021127 to 20030319.

The date code is located in the battery compartment, located on the top pannel next to the steering wheel.

Speaker: These ride-on toys are intended for children under three years old. That's the age group that is most likely to put small parts in their mouth. We have six reports of the screw and nut coming loose including the tragic death of an 18 month old boy who aspirated on a screw.
