Century Offers Cash Reward for Recalled Infant Swings
Four strangulation deaths reported

Press Release # 00-019

Transcript

(Doll being strapped into infant swing) As originally manufactured the Lil' Napper harness straps are placed over the infant's shoulders and buckled between the infant's legs. (doll stuck in the seat and sliding down) A problem can occur if the straps become loose or are unbuckled. (close-up of doll head tangled in the strap) An infant can become tangled in the straps and strangle.

(View of Jerry Ingraham, Spokesman, Century Products speaking and name and title on the screen) "Despite a two year nationwide effort to alert the public about this recall, Century believes that (Name and title disappear) many of the 125,000 swings originally sold could still be in use (view of attic, infant swing among stuff) or are being stored in attics and basements for future use. (view of repair kit and adult reading instructions) Century wants consumers to know that a repair kit is available for the "Little Napper" infant swing." (Century spokesman finishes speaking)

(View of new seat pad, straps, and instructions) The kit contains a new seat pad and restraint system with crotch straps and complete instructions. (woman sitting at table, opening an envelope and taking out a check) As an extra incentive, Century is offering (close-up of 30 dollar check) a 30 dollar cash reward to each consumer who fixes their swing. (close-up of top of top of swing, tag which reads "Century") The century brand name is on the motor assembly at the top of the swing (view of seat with tray) and each swing has a plastic two-position seat (view of seat without tray) with a removable plastic tray.

(Seat being taken off swing base and turned up-side down) The recalled Lil' Napper infant swings can be identified by a sticker (bottom of swing's seat) located on the bottom of the swing's seat. (close-up of finger pointing to sticker, which reads: "920709"; "12475PBF") The recalled models are: (numbers shown and a red circle around the number on the sticker) 12-344, 12-345, 12-347, 12-475, and 12-476.

(View of two swings) Parents and caregivers, including dare-care centers (big red circle with a red line going through it and the words: "Do not use unless repaired" in big white letters, with the two swings still in the background) should stop using these infant swings immediately, (woman in the attic moving a box and taking the infant seat and swing) or take them out of storage to make the repair.
