GOV. PERDUE ANNOUNCES 2009 DR. JOHN R. LARKINS AWARD WINNER

RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that Raymond Burrell of Goldsboro received the 2009 John R. Larkins Award for contributions by a state employee to human and race relations in the workplace and community.  Burrell is head of the Business and Computer Technologies Division at Wayne Community College. He was presented the award during the 28th annual State Employees’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance program.

Governor Perdue Announces Steps to Balance North Carolina’s Budget

Raleigh, N.C. – Gov. Bev Perdue today instructed state agencies to take several steps to balance North Carolina’s budget. The budget management plan is in response to the executive order she signed on Tuesday after new estimates showed the shortfall increasing to $2 billion.

Governor Perdue Lauds House Action, Urges Senate Passage of Children’s Health Insurance Bill

Raleigh, N.C. – Gov. Bev Perdue today urged the U.S. Senate to follow the action of the House of Representatives and authorize funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Congressional action will allow an additional 24,000 uninsured children to be added to the 124,500 kids in North Carolina who already receive health coverage through the program.

RALEIGH - Gov. Bev Perdue today announced the launch of the state’s newly redesigned tourism Web site, www.VisitNC.com. The site, which is run by the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development, is aimed at today’s sophisticated Web user who can customize the site’s content and connect to more than 16,000 travel-related businesses, attractions and events across the state.
