Global SchoolNet Foundation Home Page - The Global SchoolNet was started in 1985 by a group of San Diego teachers. Today the foundation offers a variety of services for the educational community. Global SchoolNet gives on-line workshops on topics from 'Hello to the Internet' to 'Making and Managing a Global Learning Project.' It facilitates monitored news groups for students and teachers and provides an excellent place to locate partner schools for specific projects. Hilites is an extremely useful list of student Internet projects, sorted by the date they begin. Global SchoolNet is an excellent resource for both joining and establishing cross-cultural projects, and for expertise in designing them.
I*EARN - The International Education and Resource Network works to bring together K-12 students and teachers to develop and share expertise on projects to improve the quality of life on the planet. Projects focus on environmental issues as well as cultural understanding. 500 schools in 20 countries are currently involved.
Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections - St. Olaf's College provides world-wide email connections for K-12 and college students. Individual students can request a pen-pal from a specific country, or whole classrooms can link up to work on joint research projects. This site also contains an extensive list of other current international email projects.
KIDLINK: Global Networking for Youth 10-15 - This project attempts to facilitate communication on the Web for students ages 10-15 around the world. To subscribe students must answer 4 basic questions including, 'How do I want the world to improve?' and 'What can I do now to make this happen?' 37,000 kids from 71 countries are participating. Forums are offered on issues from home schooling to kids' rights. Students in different counties collaborate on year-long curriculum projects in which information and resources are shared, and observations compared and analyzed.
KanCRN Collaborative Research Network - KanCRN is a global network of students, teachers, and scientists interested in conducting research across the Internet. Membership and resources are free and available to anyone. Projects include Stream Monitoring, Ground Level Ozone Monitoring, SO2 and Lichens Studies, UVB and DNA research, Tardigrade Studies, Digital Monarch Watch, Amphibian Biomonitoring, Particulate Monitoring, and more.
