BARDA Medical Countermeasures Programs

The Office of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) provides an integrated, systematic approach to the development and purchase of the highest priority vaccines, drugs, therapies, and diagnostic tools for public health and medical emergencies.

These programs are supported by a number of funding streams, including the Project BioShield Act of 2004 (P.L. 108-276), the Department of Defense Emergency Supplemental Appropriations to Address Hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, Pandemic Influenza Act of 2006 (P.L. 109-148), and the Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Hurricane Recovery (P.L. 109-234).
