Dr. Yuan Liu is Program Director for Technology Development and Chief of the Office of International Activities at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Her program focuses on basic and translational research in channels, synapses, and neural circuits that underlie normal brain function and dysfunction. She is the NINDS representative for the Biomedical Information Science and Technology Initiative (BISTI), the Neuroimaging Informatics Technology Initiative (NIfTI), the Human Brain Project and other Bioinformatics and Computational Neuroscience related programs and initiatives. She is also the co-organizer of the NIH Neuroinformatics Interest Group. Dr. Liu received her bachelors and masters degrees in neurophysiology from Peking University in P. R. China, and received her Ph.D. in neuroscience from Biozentrum, Universität Basel in Switzerland. After her postdoctoral training at SUNY at Stony Brook, she joined the intramural program at NIH. Before joining NINDS, Dr. Liu was Program Director for Basic Neuroscience Research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
