GLOBE Students at Koninklijk Atheneum When Belgium joined GLOBE in March 1995, the Koninklijk Atheneum Tienen School was appointed as the first GLOBE school in the Flemish community. The students began reporting GLOBE data just a month later and have reported consistently since that time. Their outstanding work was showcased during a 1996 visit to the school by Belgian cabinet members of the ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ministry of Education and the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium.

Working under the guidance of their teacher, Mr. Jules Robijns, Atmospheric Measurements these fifth and sixth graders have expanded their environmental measurement activities to include investigations in the pH of the rain water, chemical analysis of their hydrology study site, and studies of light intensity in a nearby forest. The students created an extensive web site to share information about GLOBE at the Koninklijk Atheneum Tienen School and their other science activities. The school's web site is also included in the GLOBE Resource Room and available from their school information page.

"Their data is very consistent and reliable...I'm extremely impressed by their ambition and their work, " GLOBE Hydrology Principal Investigator Roger Bales stated. Congratulations to Mr. Robijns and these students on their outstanding achievements.
