GLOBE Stars

Palmetto Elementary School, Miami, FL, United States

15 June 1998

On November 20, 1997, GLOBE students at Palmetto Elementary School in Miami, Florida, hosted representatives from twenty-two GLOBE countries! On this beautiful sunny day, the students escorted the guests to their GLOBE study site located in the school garden. The students described how they have used GLOBE science activities to help them in planning the garden and to monitor pH in a nearby creek.

GLOBE teacher and trainer Marcie Bosseler showed a video that she and her GLOBE students produced, describing how the students conduct GLOBE measurements and use the Internet to send GLOBE data. The students then gave a presentation detailing what they have learned about their environment from GLOBE activities. It was particularly interesting for the visitors to hear about how much the trees in the Palmetto Elementary study site had grown in just one year.

The international guests, who had traveled to Miami for a GLOBE Training Workshop, were very impressed by the students work and knowledge. Palmetto Elementary provided an outstanding example of how students, teachers, and parents can work together in GLOBE.
