In September 1997, fourth graders at Charles B. Murray Elementary School in Sheridan, Montana, invited parents to learn more about their GLOBE activities. At "GLOBE Night," parents sat at school desks, learned about making measurements and observations, and even took a test on how to read the atmospheric thermometer! Every student had at least one parent attend GLOBE Night. At the end of the evening, a number of parents volunteered to help students with GLOBE protocol measurements on weekends -- an important part of supplying scientists with continuous data. GLOBE Teacher Jim Lane said the GLOBE program "is starting to be noticed by more and more people in our community." GLOBE's value and strength can be vastly increased through such parental, school-wide, and community support.

In July 1997, Mr. Lane made a presentation at the U.S. GLOBE Teachers Confernce in Colorado Springs on the Penta Project, a joint atmopheric research project involving his students and GLOBE schools in Washington, South Korea, and Sweden.
