GLOBE Stars

Enon Kirkonkylan Ala-Aste, Eno, Finland

10 July 1998

The fifth and sixth grade students at Enon Kirkonkylan Ala-Aste school in Eno, Finland, are more than just GLOBE students....they are musicians! These GLOBE Students in Eno, a small town near the Russian border approximately 300 miles Northeast of Helsinki, have recorded a song about GLOBE in both Finnish and English, written by their teacher, Mika Vanhanen.

If your computer has the ability to play "WAV" format sound files, download the chorus from the song "GLOBE's for Children!" (note: this file could take more than five minutes to download with a 14.4 kbps modem). If your computer can't play "WAV" format sound files, you can still see the lyrics to "GLOBE's for Children!"

Additionally, on June 19, 1996, Henna Saarivuori, a student at Enon Kirkonkylan Ala-Aste, travelled to the United States to visit GLOBE students at Atholton Elementary School in Columbia, Maryland, USA where she helped the Atholton students take their hydrology measurements. As Henna's teacher, Mr. Vanhanen, said, "this is among the first visits, where a GLOBE student from another continent visits other GLOBE students sharing information face-to-face." We hope to see more GLOBE student exchanges in the future!

Students at Enon Kirkonkylan Ala-Aste (pictured here) were featured in a Finnish magazine called "Ote: Opetus & Technologia." They have been consistently collecting and reporting GLOBE data since January 1995. Mr. Vanhanen and his students can be reached via GLOBEMail and would love to hear from you!
